Reed modules are magnetic sensors that are normally open and shut in the presence of magnetic fields. When the switch is in the vicinity of a magnetic field, the 2 plates are drawn to one another and touch, closing the circuit and providing digit output 1. Under normal circumstances, the 2 plates do not touch, creating an open circuit digital output of 0. The plates move apart after the magnetic field is no longer present, breaking the circuit once more. Potentiometer on board to adjust the sensitivity. These are fantastic for a variety of jobs where knowing if you are close to a magnetic field is helpful.
