A single-pole octal-throw analogue switch (SP8T), also known as the CJMCU-74HC4051 or 74HCT4051, is appropriate for use in analogue or digital 8:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer applications.

Three digital select inputs (S0, S1 and S2), eight independent inputs and outputs (Yn), a common input and output (Z), and a digital enable input are all present on the switch (E).

The switches are switched off when E is HIGH. Among the inputs are clamp diodes.

This makes it possible to link inputs to voltages higher than VCC using current limiting resistors.
